I have been unable to use either the Windows installer - under Vista 64,
nor
the manual install via the tar ball as described here under Ubuntu Jaunty

Initially I started from

with the supposedly latest Windows installer; when that failed I found the page you mention, but had no better luck trying to install it on Ubuntu 9.04 in a VMWare Player 3.0.0, just different problems.

I have now tried to install the Windows version on an XP machine after installing ActiveState Perl 5.10.1 and I get the same errors as I did under Windows:

I have used Perl off and on in the past, but I am by no means a guru and certainly don't want to dig into the code to make it run.
