Thank you very much for your help; it is very much appreciated, because the
learning curve is rather steep from a standing start.

Right now I am simply trying to figure out what GT can do and how, 
before actually using it
for anything useful.

BTW, in my graphing example I also should have omitted the double quotes 
as Ubuntu created the .png
file with double quotes at the start and end of the file name.
But I got a graph, so I was happy :-)
